I personally would have selected the letters with magic wand and used brushes to create that style of effect

Doesn't really seem hard make 2x Hawk text files make one bigger than the one at the front add a glow, stroke, inner glow make them pretty solid to make it similar to the text for the racing gradient with bevel I think? it is pretty simple design just takes a while
