I'm positive it's ITC Lubalin --
Boton could pass as well:

but if you are looking for something similar (not the same) - try right here on dafont - Doergon

Omnivium - someone with pencil in hand - drew your sample. It is not a font. You could check out in themes: GOTHIC:

There most likely is something there to give you the same feeling -
Depends on your Helvetica - but I have a funny feeling - this is what you are looking for.
Arial
http://myfonts.us/td-ysB7MO beat me to it... lol
It's easier to see it like this. Meanwhile, I don't think you'll ever find an exact match... but you might want to use something Balter
If you own/buy commercial fonts you may want to look at Gill Kayo Condensed

Harrie, it's close but it isn't the right font. If you look carefully at the bar for the E and A - they line up in the sample, but not in Strangelove Next. Also, if you go to the site mentioned you'll see the ampersand that Kat is talking about - and well, SN doesn't do it... but oooh a great substitute if the OP can't find one that comes closer.
If it's not Trade Gothic - it sure is close.
Wahoooo - I'm the designer of the interior of the book!!! Honest - so many years and professions ago....

and I still can't recognize it - reminds me of a beat up Univers extra condensed - thin...
Perhaps something from Graffiti would be close for what you'd care to accomplish with this face that does not exist.
