hmmm, ok..
Getting back to what this thread REALLY was about: the person who stole my Face Your Fears font (heylookmyeditions - 2nd link) has come to her senses and removed the font from deviantart!
;-)
I guess I'm witnessing a cat fight here?
;-)
;-(( I commented that she is a thief.... Doesn't really help, but at least she'll know we're on her!
Hey Vinz,
No I opened a 'copyright infringement case' (under 'contact'): they already wrote me twice. Needed to give them all kinds of stuff, like proof of ownership of the fonts and some links. Hope it works.
Which font did they steal from you?
oye gatovaca, yo se! I opened a copyright case with deviant art - maybe it'll help a bit.
There seem to be persons on deviant art who upload fonts by us, then pretend they are theirs. Vinz told me he has a problem here as well, so I had a look and guess what:

Hey Vinz,
Yeah..... I was afraid it would be like this. I guess I'll redo my fonts and just create the basic character set.
Thanks a lot, you've been a great help! And.... good luck with the deviant art case!
hehehe, the cat is back!
yeah... Sue 'm for all they're worth!!!!
Ok, I know this must have been asked before, but I am going to ask y'all again.
For some reason my fonts show up on shady websites all over the place, some of them not even remotely connected to typography or fonts. I know these morons try to generate more flow to their websites, but it just doesn't seem right to me.
I came across one website which listed my fonts as freeware, telling people to YES, go ahead and modify my fonts! Resell the lot, why don't ya?
What are your experiences with this, how did you cope with this and is there a way to actually protect your babies from these vultures?
I am beginning to think that the only way to protect your fonts is to just upload demo versions, with only an A-Z character set..
(and Koeiekat: yes, I include license info inside the font itself!) ;-)
Ludwig van Beethoven was deaf.
Contacting the authors of the fonts you like is ALWAYS a good idea!
In general I think you can use the fonts for your design, but I'm not sure about the copyright issues with your designs (as the design is yours, but the font inside the design is not yours)..
? Maybe the Dallas Cowboys font???

Font... Hmm... I don't think it's my font, but if yes, then they should have donated (as the fon't been downloaded XXXtimes, but no donations!)... GRRR
But then again: it's probably not Business As Usual
whoaa! That is a nice website!!
damn. Now I have to create one like it... ;-) Thanks!
What font is this? Classic Art deco.
Hi BumpaPak....
Basically, what you're asking is: how do I make a font.
Well, a couple of things:
1. it takes study, trial and error, endless deletes and numerous cups of strong coffee to learn fontography
2. your wife will rebel, she'll make your life hell for spending so much time screwing around on your computer
3. you'll need to buy the software and try
4. read up on font-making, buy books (like all of us here), get into tutorials.
I am sorry, but there is NO easy way to explain fontmaking here.
Leslie Cabarga wrote a book called 'learn Fontlab fast', which is a must have if you buy fontlab products. I suggest you read it.
The easiest way to make a font:
design an A-Z character set; scan it into your computer, use an outline-program to create, well, an outline, export it to your font-editing software, fuck around a bit with the metrics, kerning, sidebearings, height, width, etc
hit: 'export' font, that's it.
