The windows font viewer choked because the font has too many points. That's the way the font was designed. The demo does not freeze your PC because it has less character to display. Installing the font usually frees you from this problem. Right click on the font and choose install. Try it and see what happens.
What I can't understand is why does your PC freeze when you open the folder that contains the fonts. Do you happpen to use a program that renders a thumbnail of the font? If that is so, that thumbnail program also chokes on the font for the same reason. Setting Windows Explorer to List or Details view will rid you of that problem.
A question, what are .ODT files that you mentioned? Are you referring to .OTF files?
You can't use a Google Adsense hosted account -- Adsense account for use in blogspot/blogger, youtube and other Google services -- here at Dafont.
If that's the case. you need to upgrade your Adsense account. Ask Adsense help on how to go about this.
You should ask the font author directly about that. Font authors have differing views when it comes to commercial license. To avoid problems later on, ask the concerned author.
As for me, I need a full disclosure on how you are going to use the font and who the end user is. Then I will tell you if a donation is fine or we need to talk some more. One of the things that I hate the most is people trying to downplay things and suppress info. If you do that, I am going to ask a fixed amount on a take it or leave it basis.
I only asked for a donation for the use of
K22 Xanthus on this
video (see @ 2:27) when I could have asked for a specific amount. The person who got in touch with me disclosed everything and showed me the then unreleased video. When I was asked how much I wanted for it, I told them a donation is fine.
A question, can you use your Google Adsense created for Youtube outside of Youtube/other Google sites? I am asking you this because of this
https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/2534771 No you do not have to put Proxima Nova on the server. Only people with Proxima Nova installed on their PC will be able to view the page with Proxima Nova. The probability of someone having Proxima Nova installed is a lot less than 1% of 1%. Only those in the corporate or academic environment will likely have that font installed on the PC. Outside of that, the font is very likely an unlicensed copy.
If your client really wanted Proxima Noma then they will have to purchase a license. Otherwise they have to use the font as an option for those who have it. That is why CSS allows you to declare several fonts so that if the preferred font is not available, you can use another one. As you said you are a web developer so you are fully aware of this.
I am fully aware as to how it is done at typekit.
BTW can't your client afford $29 per webfont? If he needs regular, itallc, bold and bold italic that is only $116. I say if you want it, spend for it.
Yes, it does.
However, some uppercase letters look like alternates of the lowercase, like T and t. The font in the license URL looks the same as the one available here. But if you really want to make sure, send the author a message at
http://www.dafont.com/pm/post.php?user=698664 Why don't you use Proxima Nova as your first option. As long as you do not use your typekit subscription for that site, you are fine. If the visitor has Proxima Nova installed in his computer, then they can view the site with that font.
For the second option, why not use the suggested Montserrat. It is freely available and you can use @font-face to access it. So if Proxima Nova is not available to your visitor, he can view the site using Montserrat.
Then use sans-serif as your last option just in case the Google servers can't deliver.
If you are not going to use Proxima Nova, I think you will be fine with Montserrat (or any Google fonts) and sans-serif. Having a specific font for a second option is unnecessary as Google Fonts is assumed to be always up.
You can't. That is automatically done by the system (Dafont) based on what damz described in post #2
You need a program that is OT feature aware for that to work.
If your program cannot access OT features, as it appears to be, you can still use the swashes by manually selecting it using the glyph palette of your program and insert it to your document. If your program also does not have a glyph palette, you can use CharMap that comes with Windows. There is probably a similar program on Macs.
BTW the swashes are located in the Private Use Area (PUA) of the font.
The PDF I sent you has the font embedded on it so what that someone told you about InDesign not able to embed fonts on a PDF is not true.
Your client should give the suggestion made by frd at #4 a try
BTW InDesign can be downloaded from Adobe for testing purposes.
If you still need help, I can give your font a spin.
t o 2 2 t o @ g m a i l . c o m
just delete the spaces.
Go to MyFonts (see link in post #2) and buy the font. I do not think you need the complete family. A single font only costs about $20, which I think is a reasonable price.
However, if your client is not willing to shell out $20, find a public domain font to avoid problems from using what you think are free fonts.
Should be listed here
http://www.dafont.com/forum/user.php?user=857063
If it is not there, then it is not in the forum or was deleted for some reason.
To avoid any problem, use public domain fonts only.
When did you submit your font?
Have a look at this page,
http://www.dafont.com/new.php Is the date new fonts were last added to the site before or after you submitted your font.
If the date fonts were last added was on or before you submitted your font, then have patience and check that page from time to time.
If the date is after you submitted your font, that means your font was not accepted. The admins will not tell you the reason unless you ask them. Admins are going over the forum will see your inquiry but to be sure to get an answer, send the admin a PM. Try it here
http://www.dafont.com/profile.php?user=1 It is advisable to provide the admin details of your submission.
Don't despair, gsm. The font that brought me the biggest amount only have 1,000 downloads over what your font have. Does the font look good? I do not know but I considered it worthless and named it as such. The thing is people look at things differently. What might look like crap to you might look like a piece of priceless art to others.
My font that received the most number of donations has a ratio of 1 donation for every 3,300 downloads. The overall donation-to-download ratio of my fonts here at Dafont is 1:12,000. I have 11 fonts here that were downloaded 11,000-25,000 times but haven't received any donation. It doesn't matter. The important thing is that you enjoyed it when you did the font. Whatever money that might come your way is just perks.
If ever someone get in touch with you for a commercial license, I hope you will already have an answer. It is better to be prepared than grope for an answer when that time comes.
Why not find or create a picture of that font and post it at
http://www.dafont.com/forum/?f=1
Spiderman is kind of popular and there is likely a digitization of that font out there
If you will follow the instructions in the link that fonatica gave you, you will find that things does work for you.
However, if you will follow the instructions on YouTube videos, make sure that you are double clicking/opening a TTF (True Type) or OTF (Open Type) font. If file extension or file type is not shown, TTF or OTF files are usually shown with an icon that has an A or O or T on it. The icon you see varies and depends on the program that is associated to it.
Why don't we do a test. Download this font
http://www.dafont.com/valentine-hearts.font There is only one file on that download and it is a TTF file. As you can see there is no room for errors here. Follow the instructions given by that YouTube video, and see what happens. If it still does not work for you, use the same font download link and follow the instructions in the link provided by Fonatica. Then come back here and let us know what happened.
If you put up a donate button and you do not ask for a specific amount, expect to receive as low as $1.
How about how high it can go? I will leave that up to the experts here.
Login to your account, then go to
My account then click on the link that is circled on the image
Enter your paypal email address and click submit and you are done.
------------
Edit:
I just noticed that you still do not have a font listed in your profile. That is the reason why you do not see the donate link in your account. You must have a font available for download here at Dafont before you are allowed to add a donate button. Without a font, there's nowhere to place your donate button.
Submit a font to Dafont first. You would be able to add a Paypal donate link once your font is approved,
