Thanks for your comment, @jerseygirl! Yes, I did notice that most of the threads were about renaming the internal font name; but I thought that the one or two who did mention renaming the external font name might want to check out the program I mentioned. Personally, I'm not particularly worried about a font renamer at all these days, as I rename the .zip file when I download it, to reflect the site and whether the font is Commercial Use or not. I'm an amateur designer, and use the information in each project's Credits file.
Thank you also for the links you posted -- I'm off to check them out!
I have been using DaFont for quite a while now, but have only just registered, and have been spending the last couple of hours browsing through the forum. I noticed quite a few threads about renaming fonts to their actual names, and that got me thinking about a program I used to use which did this very thing. So, I did a Google search to find it, and thought I'd share the link here for anyone who is interested:
https://www.neuber.com/free/fontrenamer/
(The program came up on another site, also, but Chrome said the above site was 'secure', while the other site was not.)
Hope this helps!

It's by Misti's Fonts.
I agree completely with making sure you contact the designer! Explain to them exactly how you would use their font, and sort out any possible misunderstandings BEFORE you pay the licence fee. Of course, if the designer is no longer designing, or their contact details aren't current, this becomes VERY difficult!
