I just ran across this post today - probably won't help you with your project now, but the best I've found that looks closest to the Top Gun intro credits text is:

"Franschi" font ( All Caps )

It's not perfect, as the 'A' and 'S' are different, but it's a pretty darn close ringer.

I'll keep looking and post if I find the actual one. Hope this brings a smile as it is about 6 years since you posted this, if you still have the same email/alerts hooked up
