Dans la pratique, le mieux est de copier la police et de lui donner un autre nom avant de la modifier.

Légalement, il faut l'autorisation de l'auteur de la police originale pour faire ça.
Quoi que... Tant que ça reste d'un usage privé (c'est-à-dire que ça ne quitte pas ton ordinateur, que tu ne le difuse pas), tu peux faire un peu ce que tu veux.

Il faut comprendre aussi qu'il n'est pas forcément possible de faire avec une police tout ce qu'on peut faire avec un éditeur graphique. En particulier, faire des dégradés est très compliqué.

Dernière chose : avant de te lancer dans une usine à gaz, vérifie si ce que tu souhaite n'existe pas déjà : des polices qui donne un effet "lettres partiellement effacées", il y en a des dizaines.

True, a font is white and black (more exactly, full and empty).
But it's possible to make an illusion of halftone and gradien, using little points or lines with a various concentration and/or size.

"Free for use" don't means that you can do what you want with the product of an author.
If the author don't ask for money to use a font, it don't mean that the author leave all hes rights of this product.
And it's so a question of respect to ask the author if you want to modify hes work.

Use the charmap application of Windows.
You find it in the accessories folder of the start menu.
You can access it to with the command charmap in a cammand line.

It give you all the characters of all the font installed. You can transfer the characters selected with a simple copy/past.

Cherry on the cake, this application give you the code to acces quickly at the character (the method that koeiekat explain).

La manip que je vais décrire est pour Win XP mais je suppose que pour ton Win 7, ça ne va pas faire une grosse différence.

N'essaye pas d'ouvrir directement le fichier ZIP depuis le site, enregistre-le sur ton disque local.
Ensuite, dans ton explorer, tu fais un clic droit sur le fichier que tu viens de télécharger et tu selectionnes "Ouvrir avec" puis "sélectionner un programme".
Dans la fénêtre qui s'ouvre, tu sélectionnes dans la liste ton programme ZIP (WinZip, 7Zip ou autres).
Dans la liste qui est proposée dans la fenêtre "sélectionner un programme", tous ceux pouvant traiter un fichier ZIP apparaissent en premier, séparés des autres. Théoriquement tous peuvent convenir.
AVANT DE CLIQUER SUR OK, tu coches l'option "Toujours utiliser ce programme".

For the font, it's a classic Times New Roman Bold (vith the second "H" enlarged").
