I try to make professional fonts for professional people.

You need not apply koelekat.

I said "closest I could find".

It's not like I spent an hour scouring. I had used the above before and it was still in my library. Has quite a few SIMILAR letterforms.

Now... do you need me to read that out loud to you koelkat? Or do you think you actually understand what I wrote that time?

Closest letterforms I could find:

I use FontLab so that I can make complex kerning pairs. I think FontLab is the only font creator program that currently allows you to save as an .otf as well (could be wrong about that).

Jun 30, 2010 at 07:20  [reply]  Cant download fonts to my CS3

Did you restart CS3?

Do you have Adobe Type Manager or some other crazy font sorting program? Do you need to manually turn on or off certain fonts through that software?

Are you on a PC or Mac?

Where did you save or install the fonts.

You need to give us a bit more info.

Ok, I'll humor you... what part are you stuck on jroces?

You downloaded the file, right?

You unzipped the file, right?

You installed the font in your fonts library right?

You opened CS3 (Photoshop or Illustrator or InDesign or whatever), right?

Which part is giving you problems?

Have you tried using a computer that's not utter shit?

Cause it's apparently just you and like one other person having problems.

Believe it or not... I've had people download my fonts, unzip them, read the readme file and then they call me: "Hey, uh, how do I install this font?"

Maybe we could make the HELP button up top flash or 5 times the size or something?

Jun 24, 2010 at 15:17  [initial post]  When designing a font...

1. What glyphs/characters do you create first? (I recall another designer telling me that he makes a certain set of glyphs first, because the rest of the font can then be made from the basics of those letters)

2. What special characters (other than foreign language character) do you like to include? Any that you never include?

3. How long do you guys spend kerning? I generally lose a whole weekend to it. Need to find a more streamlined method (I even use Kern King).

4. How much money, over the years, would you say your fonts have earned for you? I haven't made much, but ever tiny bit has come in handy.

welcome to the thankless world of typography.

Jun 17, 2010 at 15:33  [reply]  Help!

Can we do an IQ test on the index page of the site? Could really weed out some problems.

this is going to get funny, isn't it?

I draw almost all of my glyphs in Illustrator nowadays and the hand drawn ones I scan, import and live trace in Illustrator. Then I copy and past them into FontLab.

make sure your hand isn't in the blender when you turn it on also. this can cause problems.

Shit. Now you tell me. I think I'll sue.

Jun 14, 2010 at 14:11  [reply]  what is this font?

Hand drawn

You might want to contact the font designer to make sure they're ok with your usage first, you know, to avoid legal issues and all.
