It is all in the Berne Convention which even the USA has finally, sort of, ratified in 1989, more than a hundred years after the Convention became effective.
Copyright under the Berne Convention is automatic. It is prohibited to require formal registration. However, when the United States joined the Convention they ignored this prohibition.

An artistic work is never free of rights unless the copyright has been transferred with the work or the author explicitly says that the work is free from copyright.
With this lack of contrast hard to tell. Maybe RufCrate or Rubber Stamp.
