I ADDED A FONT TO MY WINDOWS PC, AND ALTHOUGH IT APPEARS IN THE LIST, I CAN'T GET IT TO TRANSFER TO THE DOCUMENT

Do this. Select the text on which you want use the font on. Go to your font menu (what you said is your font list), then select the font that you want to use. Was the selected text now rendered in the font that you selected? It should be.

If not, what was the font that you want to use? Is that font available here at Dafont? Is your text in all lowercase? Or all uppercase/capitals like your message?
