Sinclair Script Bold is close, BUT IS NOT THE FONT.
Probably hand lettered.

The Madeline books are more than 50 years old. If you look closely, you will see the two Es do not really match. I believe the name was Handlettered - and used for each in the series. (Same with the interior script.)

If you'd like someone similar - and "modern" I can only recommend Badger Bold Italic
