There are no good free programs to create fonts. So don't even think of fontforge. The programs to create fonts in a Mac are expensive, alas, but for windows there is fontcreator at a fraction of the price of the others

FontForge

FontForge is a plain disaster. Maybe once they manage a complete installable bundle, you know, something that just install the whole thing and does not force (Forge??) you to download all sort of components from all sort of different sources and they manage to get an integrated user interface it can be qualified as workable. That is, if you prefer coding over font creating. Brrrrrrrrrr!!
