Acceptable in the 80s...

Jul 13, 2014 at 16:28

Hi all,

I'm making a 'mock' for a TV channel for if it had been around in the 80s.

I need fonts that scream 1980s. They need to be free!

I would love to hear some suggestions from you!

hmmmmm free ? quite hard ...
what about this one ?

in all the 80s albums stored on my computer, the most common fonts are not free (and are not from the 80s) :
Helvetica bold, Friz Quadrata bold, Eurostile bold, Cooper black,...

Tell this tight-fisted TV channel to give you some of the money they earn from ads, to buy fonts.

BTW, none of the pics in your comp seem to be from the 80s (except reagan & mj)
(maybe they come from free image banks, that's why it looks so cheap and contemporary)

oh yeah, i forgot the heavy use of futura black cond italic.
but i think it was even more present in 2013

I've been using futura in parts and it's working well.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Note- it needs to scream 80s but I don't want anything too clichéd.

80's ? It before the creation of the True Type Format.
Look at the old pixelised Macintosh fonts...

But photo-setting yes.

Why the 80s? Boring decade after the 60s and 70s ... and nothing screaming was ever there

The 80s because I am making a 'mock' for Channel 5 had it been around in 1984. It's just for fun really.
