Creating font in TypeTool. Why does it lag?

Jun 12, 2011 at 19:10

I have experienced this with a few fonts from dafont.com. These fonts lag in FontBook and Photoshop and all programs. I recently started making a grungy font and it is lagging like crazy. I would like to produce a nice font without lag. What am I doing wrong? It could be because it has lots of shapes and lines. I am building the font in illustrator. It isn't illustrator causing it because I make all my fonts in that program and this is the first time I have experienced this.

Do you have a small picture of the problem ?

I can't take a picture of lag.

If lag is delay the answer is implied in the question. Keep your stuff clean and, excluding the kerning table, under 100K.

Yeah, but dirty sells. I shouldn't have to sacrifice design. I suppose I can settle for creating a less dirty font.

Nope. But if you feel you need to sell your coffee in 20 tons bags you may experience that your customers see no way to take your coffee home ...

In short, it is not relevant what you think, what's relevant is what your customers think.

Unless of course, when you are not interested in their money. But then, why make the 20 tons monster in the first place?

Eventually technology will allow proper compression with full performance. Until then I will stick with the more basic designs.

CERN has no problems with your 20 tonner. Yet, the question is, is CERN interested in tour thingie ...
