BBC America uses the font family Verlag along with Stymie Condensed.

Yup. Exactly as fonatica indicated, these title cards were hand-lettered by the Lord of the Rings' calligrapher, Daniel Reeve. At present he has not released a font based on any of these title cards.

In all likelihood (as with the recent films) the font is custom made. As yet, I don't think we know which company designed the font.

I believe this was hand-lettered by the Lord of the Rings films' calligraphic artist, Daniel Reeve (http://www.danielreeve.co.nz/LOTR/Maps/). To date he has only ever released on font based on the calligraphy he did for the LotR films. Because the map (and lettering) was done by hand, the font won't have all the exact character variants seen in this map, but it does have quite a few, and should do you quite nicely.
