I'm confused about Dafont's submission rules and policy.

Hiya fontfreaks,

I started using Dafont to publish my free open source type designs a looong time ago and it's always been great. I went from a single simple clunky font to over 30 fonts and almost 3.5 million downloads, so I'm really happy posting my fonts here.

The Dafont staff reviews fonts before they get published, and I think that's a big factor for the success of this site, that's a really good thing. But that's also where things get complicated. Many of my fonts are just slapdash silly ideas, but sometimes I make complex fonts with a lot of coding and extended kerning etm. My latest font was the "Very, very punk font", which has a HUGE amount of coding, ligatures, kerning adjustments et cetera. It's a really big and complicated font, but they approved it within a day. Which was great of course!!
The thing is : I had expected it to be rejected. Years earlier I had submitted a font (Fanfarron, check it out on Fontspace.com) that also had coding to widen the kerning if ALL CAPS were used, just to make it even more posh. That submission was rejected, and Dafont's staff even sent me a one line email that read something like "WTF??????"
There is no way at all to contact Dafont's staff (except for what I'm trying to do with this post. I hope) to get an idea of what is and is not allowed. I assumed their 'wtf????' reaction was because they didn't feel like checking the long list of code (I had anticipated every caps combination), but the code of the Very very punk font was waaaaay longer and more complex.

So now I'd really, really like to know why my Fanfarron font was rejected, and if - I can imagine the DaFont gaining knowledge about coding - I can submit it succesfully by now?

Hello,

You should indeed have received an email in January 2020 saying that your Fanfarrón font was rejected due to kerning issues. I just checked it again, and while it's not possible for me to tell you what was going through my head at the time, I might have had the feeling that the kerning was a bit too irregular maybe? When you write its name this way, "Fanfarrón", there's this huge space between the "ó" and the "n". In uppercase, there's this huge space between the "R" and the "Ó" for example. For such a great/fancy design, it might have felt like a problem to me. It might also feel like nitpicking at this point, but as you said, it is a part of that human system we have built, and it has its advantages and its flaws.

By the way, there is a "Contact" link in the bottom right corner of every page

Hey thanks for replying!

I've probably sent you an unfinished version then. I'll try again. Or if it indeed needs extra coding for the glyphs with diacritix, I'll just tear out that wide spacing for A L L C A P S all together.

Thanks again, I have work to do.

So, I've had a look at it and I can't find what you describe. The RO space was a tiny bit wide, but not enough to make it a mistake, just a matter of taste. So maybe I sent the wrong version? I'll submit it again.

You're welcome! It might have been that. We checked your latest submission earlier and it seems okay indeed.
