You know... you can type that sentence once and get far more serious responses.

But hell, I'll cave and give it to you anyhow... FontLab is the absolute best.

Now... next time try google.com Type in Font creation software. You would have had your answer instantly.

I prefer ---> Font Forge <--- however ---> Type Tool <--- is nearly identical for much less.

I've missed you guys.

But to add to the discussion - I grew up on Fontographer, and it still is wonderful. That's because I know how to use it...

Fontographer

Got my vote!

If you're looking for a Freeware font creator on Windows, there's: http://cr8software.net/typelight.html
Another free but limited online solution is: http://fontstruct.fontshop.com

Selvafont, you cannot 'load' fontstruct. Frontstruct is a on-line tool based on geometrical shapes.
TypeLight's trial, like Fontlab's isn't fully functional so you can play with it but not create a font with it.
For PC users, alas not for apples, there is only one program around that allows you during it's trial period of 30 days to really create a font: Font Creator, high-logic.com.

No, again, I don't have shares in the company ... alas - again

Edit kk:
see I only used two times alas, my wrong, to keep the tradition of the thread alive ...
alas

I'm with koeiekat in endorsing the the trial version of FontCreator. A 30 day, fully functional app for free is a lot more than FontLab offers. If I recall correctly, the trail versions of the Fontlab programs distort every other glyph when you generate a font. The full version is also significantly less expensive to buy than any of the FontLab apps. I don't use it myself, but I have a copy, and it should be enough to make amateur and semi professional fonts, for most people.

Type Light is definitely Freeware and fully functional, albeit missing a few functions from the commercial version. Just make sure you download the correct installation file for the free version.

23/08/2010 alle 20:08

OK Kodoichi from your point of view you are right. From my point of view Type Light is that crippled that it is close to useless. Thus The Kat says, not fully functional.

not fully functional

Well, my vote goes to Font Creator. And no, I don't have any shares in the company. But I would never have succeeded at creating a functional font, if I had not discovered this self-explaining, easy to use program. And the best about it is that it has a validation tool, which allows you to correct at least the most glaring flaws in your curves (in some cases, you can even have it correct them automatically).

I love Font Creator
