Hey, Im just going around looking for fonts to try and make a logo for myself... and Ive pretty much decided that I should really find someone to make a custom font for me. Im a musician... not an artist :(

Anyway, its seems there is some talent on this site and instead of doing a "Hey who wants to do a logo for me" post I wanted to do a bit of research first.

Here are my stupid q's

-How much is a good estimate for a custom font. Im on a budget but really want to know how much its going to cost for quality work.

-Is it better to give someone direction with there work (Example "Make it look like___ and ___ font combined") or is it better if I give them samples of... say my music... and let the artist make some concepts. I really feel the second option would be better, but its better to look.

-And lastly... what is the best way to approach a designer for a project like this. I feel that a forum would be to informal so my guess would be email? Again... just checking really how to work with designers.


I guess Im looking around because the in house guy at the last label (Really small scale label) came up with shit. Kinda bland. Lacks creativity.


Cheers to anyone willing to answer my questions. Im really not looking for a logo designer... but a font designer. A font that is a logo seems much more appealing to me.

If you wrote a brief I would give you a quote for a price.

Well it would be a simple Single color simple shape font. (No 3d or fancy effects, just unique typography) and as Im an electronic musician it would be similar to the "Techno/Scifi" catagory. It would need to be a vector file for future uses. And other than that it would be going through my discography and creating something you think of.
