The Stockholm Design Lab new corporate identity for SAS was developed circa 1998, but the typeface of those SAS letters has been around since the 1940s and was used as the logotype for the complete livery "SCANDINAVIAN AIRLINES SYSTEM" and many related brands (Scanair, Tromsbuss, Greenlandair/Grønlandslfly) over the decades. Someone has made a digital version of the font named "Royal Viking", and there's a sample image posted at https://www.behance.net/gallery/10027117/Scandinavian-Airlines (near the bottom).

BTW, if anyone gets a copy of the font I'd like one too!

Bumping this old thread three years later: did any of you find this font, or something similar to it? I would really like to get a hold of it

Royal Viking might not exist as a digital font.
As for a substitute, the closest I found in a quick search is Roxy Black Italic. Increase the slope and widen for a closer substitute.

It's not similar enough though I'm afraid, but thanks a lot for trying to help.

Does anyone know the font used on the "Scandinavian Airlines" that goes with the SAS logo? Or anything close to it as the designers seem to have made an exclusive font for them.

Found a fairly new version: Flighter by Måns Grebäck (free download for personal use - commercial use license also available)
Suggested font: Flighter

Are you still interested in the font? I was the one who digitised the typeface back in the 1990s. As far as I know the font was introduced towards the end of the 1950s and I suspect that the letters were drawn by Sigvard Bernadotte, the royal designer. Send me an e-mail at axel.blom(at)gmail.com and I'll send it to you. I remember the numbers were the tricky part. I see Måns Grebäck has created lower key characters as well, but they never existed in real life.
