Is the French word for "font", "police" or "fonte" ?

Claude is technically right, but the most common word that every french speaking people can easily understand (even the newbies and moms) is "police" (without guns)
Because that's the word used in common OS settings (Windows, Mac) and also in the softwares menus for most of them.

Otherwise yes it can be called : police / police de caractères / police d'écriture / fonte / typographie / typo
