Freelance Job for a Font Designer: Need Dotted Fonts

Dec 17, 2010 at 22:36

Hello,

I'm looking for a font designer to help me create a small number ( 2-5 ) of varieties of dotted fonts.

At a minimum, I'd need:
- 1 dotted font that's close in look to a plain sans-serif like Arial
( see http://brightsigns.com/images/img2.jpg )
- 1 dotted font with serifs, something simple that looks reasonable using a single row of dots
( see the word "GOLD" here: http://brightsigns.com/images/img1.jpg )

Nice to have
- 1 dotted font that's got a "Script" look to it. Something like either "Script MT Bold", or "Lucida Handwriting"
- 1 dotted font with some kind of "Fun Feel" Comic Sans?

They'll be used for an online LED sign creator, so the use case is fairly simple. I'll be writing a script that leverages ImageMagick (imagemagick.org) to create an online proof for an LED sign.

The images will be small ( 130px X 320px, 170px X 320px, 200px X 370px ), so the font doesn't need to scale to every possible use case. Also, I don't need all the characters. Just a-z, A-Z, 0-9 and some punctuation/symbols: ., !$

FYI, it's this kind of LED sign: http://www.brightledsigns.com/products/Your_Name_Your_Message_Custom_Rectangular_LED_Sign_2_Line-4941-452.html

Specifically, it's not a programmable LED sign. That means you aren't working with a "fixed square matrix". The dots can go anywhere.

=====FONTS THAT ARE CLOSE TO WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR===========

There are a few existing fonts that are almost perfect, but each has an issue that keeps me from using it. I thought this might be helpful to clarify what I'm looking for:

1) http://www.searchfreefonts.com/free/national-first-font-dotted.htm
The dots aren't all of equal size, and the letter spacing is just a little bit too tight/close.

2) http://www.fontspace.com/christopher-jarman/jardotty
Dot's aren't equal in size, also has triangle shapes here and there that don't work.

3) http://www.fontco.com/font-info/beadchain.php
Again, close, but like the namesake, has a "thread" running through the dots I don't need, and the dots are a bit close together.

4) http://www.fontspace.com/honey-and-death/dotline
Really, really close to what I need. Minor things like the capital 'W' is too stylized, and the lowercase 'e' has a slanted horizontal line that's a bit too fancy.

As for budget, I'm not yet sure what the level of effort is, but this is something that would yield great benefits for me, so I'm expecting to make a reasonable investment. I'll need help from any interested candidates to get to the right figure for both of us.

I'm happy to answer any questions. Just shoot me a note, or you can email me directly at: [sales "at" brightsigns "dot" com]

If you haven't heard anything, let me know. This could be a good 'part time' challenge for me to get done this weekend.

hi there,

i'm funk_king and have some fonts posted here and many more at fontstruct. i have created many dotted fonts which can be viewed here: http://fontstruct.com/fontstructors/funk_king/public/tags/Dots. the license for these fonts is currently incorrect and should be creative commons non-derivative non-commercial. although if you are interested in any of the ones i have done and want a custom job, i'm sure we could come to reasonable terms.

regards,

funk_king
