Why do the mods delete so many requests?

Oct 16, 2018 at 17:59

It's very annoying that so many times and without any explanation, the mods remove perfectly valid requests for font identification.

Just recently, an user posted a perfectly clear picture, containing three different fonts. So, one takes his time to identify the fonts, to look for the link to the sample in Myfonts and to post the answer... only to have the request and the answer deleted 5 minutes later. Of course, without explanation.

You don't see the reason why a thread is deleted, but the person who posted it does. It is written on the "New Topic" page: "Zoomed (enlarged) images and/or crappy JPGs will be deleted ". What you consider a "perfectly clear picture" is definitely not clear and has been manipulated. If you see an image that is enlarged/zoomed/crappy, then you should expect it to be removed by a moderator later.

I have had several requests made by me that were also deleted without ever a message giving the reason.

And many of the deleted threads correspond to very clear pictures (perhaps not 100% clear, if they are photographs instead of images taken from a web) where the font(s) are perfectly identifiable.

If you post an image and your thread is deleted because the image is considered crappy, you will receive an email. If you didn't receive anything, you should check your spam folder. An email is always being sent.

Like I said, what you consider perfectly clear, may not be perfectly clear for us and we always have the final word on it. It's not about the fact that the font can be identified or not, it's about image quality. We have specific rules that we follow, like every other forum on the internet.

Edit: Two of your requests have been deleted because you took images or samples from other topics that were either already solved or answered, and you specifically mentioned that these were related to the topics in question.
