old cave font does not work in powerpoint

Oct 29, 2017 at 21:15

Hi, I downloaded the old cave font and installed the OTF file in Windows7. In powerpoint all special characters like ? () ! or , are not visible when I type them. Do you know why ?

That's because these characters are not included in the font.

ok, thanks. I was mislead by the fact that in word or wordpad these special chars are indeed shown when I select this font. Probably they have an inbuilt mechanism of their own that adds any missing characters. However on the other hand powerpoint does not do this. So this I still find strange.

If you're talking about this font, it doesn't have the characters you listed in your first post.

yes, exactly. So why do word and wordpad have no problem and powerpoint does ?

You don't understand. These characters are NOT in the font. No software will display them. If you saw them at some point, they were from another font. Windows sometimes replaces missing characters by characters from a default/more basic font.
