Hi,
Sorry if this question's been asked a million different times a million different ways, I'm designing a few pages of a free mag and it will be distributed in the city. Does this count as commercial? I found a few fonts that said both free and free for personal use. Am I allowed to use them without worrying about their legal rights?
Thanks,
a.
Always best to try to contact the author him/herself first. If the font says free you probably can. If the font says free for personal use, if that free magazine is intended to make money, even if it is for a charity, the use is commercial. Apart from this, you will be making something for someone else so the use is not personal. Even if you do it for free.
Wow. Thanks. I like this website but it's super frustrating when you're working on a deadline and needing to get copyrights. Do you have any other suggestions for a web site that is clear about how much you pay (and reasonable)? I am doing this for free, for a mag that is distributed for free but it contains advertisements in it, so that it can sustain itself and eventually generate a profit. Not that you particularly care about that info, but just to give you an idea. I'm not rolling in the dough and there's some nice fonts on here, I'm thinking of using or at least trying out. I will contact the authors if I intend on using them.
Cheers,

That sounds similar to a situation Im in. I found a font on here that I want to use. Its a job Im not getting paid for. Ive tried contacting the designer via email and facebook but can't get a reply. Not sure what to do next. I want to make a donation to the designer to make sure he gets some payment for his great work but will this be mean I can use the font for my work? How much should I donate?
I need some advice?
About donating, for some fonts you have a "Donate to author" button right under the "Download" part. It depends if the font you have downloaded gives you such a link. Anyway, which font are you talking about ?
Hi
Im looking to use Blessed Day by Billy Argel. It has the make a donation button but no indication of how much.
Ok, well if you click on "Donate to author", you'll be redirected to Paypal where you can indicate the amount of money you want to donate. Pretty simple, uh ? How much is up to you. Prices for fonts may vary from $ 5-10 to a lot more money depending on many things.
Thanks. Yes its very simple, and I understand how to make a donation. I was just trying to understand how much and will this then give me the right to use the font.
Each autor have his own definition of "personnal use" an can answer if you case is or ise't for it a "personnal use".
