Google also has a font named Galada that seems to be identical to Lobster. Can anyone explain why Google would have two identical fonts under different names?

Two different type designers.

Chances are there are three slight variations going on... I haven't checked, but in the olden days, it would have been an apostrophe, the letter Q... and uh oh - I forgot the other one... lol

Ok, but what's the point of that? Wouldn't it be better if Google added a new font style to their repository rather than re-treading Lobster? I know, that's a question for Google, not the DaFont font identification forum.

49er - I'm not Google. I was a typographer a few decades back...

This has more to do with legal issues for the font. The US courts decided back in around 1982 that if a second manufacture makes the same font, changes the name and a few little details - it is a NEW font. It's sad, I know. But that's life. And this ruling btw, seems to hold up.

If the second manufacturer wanted to call it the same name - there are royalties to be paid... so, it all comes down to money. The answer to all your questions.
