Download link does not work - help!

Apr 05, 2015 at 20:25

I found this site today and tried downloading a font and the link does not download. I have tried several of my computers and both Internet Explorer and Firefox. Have been able to download other things as recent as yesterday from other sites (graphics, etc) with no problem. I have Windows 7 and 8.1. For some reason a new tab opens and then a new page comes up with the "This page cannot be displayed" error message. When I click on the download link a new tab should not open, but instead should just download into my download folder, right? Do I have to make a donation first before downloading? I thought by registering this would solve the problem but it does not. Anybody know what I am doing wrong? Is this site sensitive to internet connection? Thanks a million.

The name of some fonts you have been trying to download might help, so it can be checked to see if the problem is with your system, or a broken link.

The font is Jellyka Delicious Cake and Vonique 64 for starters. Thank you for testing! Appreciate your help.

You are aware you will be downloading a zip containing the font (+ variations)?

If a zip file, it should download properly and I do know how to unzip. My challenge is figuring out why all of my computers want to open a new tab and then reveal a Page Not Found error message when I click on the download link.
I have gone into the download folder on my computers, and also checked Windows temp folders/downloads, and also a font folder which downloaded in Windows this morning from another site just fine. Nothing there. And verified when I click on the download progress arrow in the tool bar on Firefox. Nothing downloaded. So, it's a mystery. I may have to wait until tomorrow and call a computer techy in town to find out why this is happening with this one site. Has never happened before.

This is the message I see when a new tab opens after clicking on the download link:

The connection has timed out

The server at dl.dafont.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Both named fonts download OK for me, so as you seem to suspect, your problem would appear to be local.

@hillsresort
That message is clear enough. It means that the dafont site - for one reason or another - takes too long to respond. Most times such a thing happens when the connection between your ISP and the ISP of dafont is overloaded. Should be a rare thing between the USA and Europe but it happens. For example, I am in Spain at the ultimate end of my ISP connection. I get this message often, even when connecting to an ISP in France or at least 'waiting for dafont to respond'. As they say, shit happens.

Thank you Pilaster and Koeiekat for your help. I think you are right. My internet up here is terrible today. But I was able to temporarily solve the problem Discovered I could just go straight to the font designer website and download there. What a relief! Thanks again. And Happy Easter to you!
