Fonts not kerning properly in Photoshop

Feb 23, 2015 at 15:21

Hi. I've had some reports of my fonts not displaying the kerning properly in Photoshop. The kerning is perfect in my font software and even in word, illustrator, and various CNC specific software for embroidery and other types of cutting programs. I've tried to help people manually adjust the spacing, but I know that's a pain to do. Considering the above, I wonder if it is a photoshop issue, or a problem with my fonts? Are there any suggestions or has anyone else ever seen this before?

Which font might that be?

Thank you.
Sweet Pea for sure. But strangely, I just downloaded a trial of photoshop so i could see for myself. I'm not that familiar with it, but I noticed instantly they were a bit off. When I toggled the character panel, the spacing was set by default to -25.
I put a zero in that box, and the fonts are perfect. It seemed that by default the font was set to condensed. However, this is not working for any other users?

I should have added, It might be Photoshop Elements more so than photoshop.

OpenType GPOS 'kern' feature in font Sweet Pea is set only for script DFLT{dflt} (script default - language default).
I suggest to set this feature for DFLT{dflt}, latn{dflt} (script default - language default, script latin - language default).

Thank you! I see where that is set, but how to change it? Please excuse my ignorance, I am new to FontLab. I've been reading through the manual, but I'm still not sure how to change it. Do I type it manually?

I use FontForge,
but in FontLab, according this link: http://forum.fontlab.com/index.php?topic=8278.0

[...] In addition to the feature descriptions in the OpenType panel, in FLS 5.1 you must include a list of all languagesystems that your features are using.
You should enter this list in the lower-right portion of the OpenType panel.

For a typical Latin-based font, your lower-right portion of the OpenType panel should say:

languagesystem DFLT dflt;
languagesystem latn dflt;

Thank you again. I did find where I was able to add language system in the "font info"
Also in the meantime I found in a photshop elements forum instructions for my customer to "reset Tools" and it worked.
I was a little afraid to make any changes given that the font worked properly in every other program except for PS Elements.

Everybody here is always so awesome. I'm truly very thankful to have found this website. Making fonts is the start of a whole new path for me and its so exciting. I have dafont to thank.

Thanks again.
Emily
