Ligatures don't work
Hello,
http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/bitstream/classical-garamond/
I got this font, but the ligatures "fl" & "fi" don't work, even if they are integrated to the font.
You can try it with the preview there, it's the first font, by Bitstream :
http://www.myfonts.com/search/classical+garamond/fonts/#item_2
When you type "fi" & "fl" in the preview, and you select to display the ligatures in the options, they don't work.
Thanks

Most probably, font from Bitstream have no built-in OpenType 'liga' table.
Is there any way I could fix that using a software to modify the font?
I've found how to do BUT that deletes a lot of existing glyph, is someone knows how to avoid this problem.
1. Open the font in "FontCreator"
2. Find the ligatures "fi" & "fl"
3. Right clic on "fi", "Glyph Properties"
4. Replace what's in "Codepoints" by "$FB01"
5. Right clic on "fl", "Glyph Properties"
6. Replace what's in "Codepoints" by "$FB02"
7. Export in .otf version

In this case I suggest you use the
Sabon (Adobe). As you know almost identical to the Classical Garamond, both designed by Jan Tschichold.
Thank you. I'm assuming there is no difference between the Sabon of Linotype & the one of Adobe, at least for the STD versions?
The basic character sets seem to be the same.
Adobe version is Version 2.095;PS 005.000;hotconv 1.0.67;makeotf.lib2.5.33168, Glyph count: 417.
Linotype version is Version 2.001;PS 002.000;hotconv 1.0.38, Glyph count: 590
So there can be very small differences like here and there a node 1 em off. Only to be noticed at very large sizes.
Thank you for the help.
Problem solved.
Thanks for the help.

If you bought this font at myfonts, you should be using the help function at myfonts, instead of bringing this question up here.
If you got this font on a fly by night site offering free downloads of commercial fonts, it's probably not an original font, especially if the file you have is True Type. Those ligatures are open type features. If this is the case, you should not be discussing .pdf extract fonts here.
If you got it in the
Phontdawg Collection, it might be an original, but you're wasting your time, if you try to get that now. All you're going to end up with is part of an archive that you'll never be able to complete, and you won't be able to open it, unless you have 100%.
That had been around for a while when I got it in 2008, and torrents on public sites never stay seeded for seven years,
EVER. All you'll get is a part of the torrent, from some guy who thinks someone will complete the archive, but it will never happen. Anyyone seeding would be using a different torrent client than they did in 2008, and people who downloaded generally didn't reseed. It's probably five years since the Phontdawg Collection was circulating.
