Anyone have any luck getting a font removed from fonts101?

My first "font" was uploaded to dafont.com a week ago. It was taken by fonts101 and is being redistributed without my permission. I have sent numerous notices and received no response from fonts101.

Anyone have the same problem?

Unfortunately, font101 have not the same deontology as dafont and don't care about the creators.

Hi squarelogo,

This issue has been discussed around here a few times, you might be interested in checking this link for a little bit more information.

Using the report button on 101, on May 31, 2012 5:28 AM I wrote to 101:

... In violation of the licensing information in both the font properties and
the readme file you are distributing this font without my written consent.

... bla bla bla ...

I urge you to immediately remove the Fontenay Fancy font from your site.

Please confirm.

...

At 11:25 AM the same day I received the following answer:

Thank you very much for contacting us. This font has been removed.

Regards,
Fonts101.xxx Team

And indeed, the font was removed

Thanks for the info. I have used report button several times now and received no response. Just tried again.

Pakistan!! Their local time is now 22:30.

Thanks for the info. I have used report button 10 times, using (almost) the same message as yours.

@koelekat, I'm not expecting a response from Pak in the middle of the night, but sometime within a day or two would be nice. I've been sending messages for days now.

@ squarelogo
Maybe, but this is only a wild guess, they actually check the font's license and description info in the font itself. And when it is there they act and when it is not they don't. In your case with your snowflakes there is no such info in the font header and as they throw away accompanying readme and/or other files and they don't know where their bot got the font from, they have no info to check and do not respond.
Thus, if you want to protect your work (a bit and a bit only) make sure that you incorporate the TOU in the font file. Then at least you can threaten someone. Whether it pays-off to follow-up with actual legal actions is another matter.

Thanks for the tip! I will make this update and also do this for future works.

12/03/2013 à 21:25

Update: Now when I go to fonts101 and to my font and click on the Report button it doesn't work.

Works on all other fonts, just not mine.

These guys are true a-holes.

Now you know the dark side of Fonts101

i asked them to remove all my fonts (one by one, using Kat's message), and here's what they sent me :

Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
The fonts will be removed in 24 hours. With respect to violation, I would like to ask / request permission is there any possible way we can keep the fonts? Maybe if you have something specific requirement or something.
Regards,
Jag /

Hi,
yeah, you could add my fonts on your website
BUT
- files SHOULD BE zip, containing the TTF file, the ReadMe txt file, and the illustration image.
- files SHOULD NOT BE .exe. We're dealing with fonts ! We're not dealing with viruses or malwares. Why the hell do you have to repackage it as exe, if not bad intention ?
- add credit (Damien Gosset - www.sweeep.fr) and license (free for private use ONLY)
Following designers basic requirements is the least you can do on such a website.
You know where you originally found these fonts... So please go back to Dafont, download them again, don't touch anything in the archive files, leave them as is, don't transform them to exe (or whatever virus format), respect author names and licenses.
Then everything should be OK
More than everything, don't touch anything. No f**king crappy EXE files
Let me know
Damien
