I was commissioned to make Harry Potter themed tshirts for a team at my College. My question is, would use of the Harry P font be in anyway copyright infringement? I dont want to have any legal issues with the use of this typeface on these shirts and Im worried that this is so similar that itd be liable.

It says free and there are no restrictions mentioned. Also, read the readme. Thus, no problems with the use of the font. Yet another problem may arise, the the Harry Potter Merchandising Empire. I'd say that when you use the font but NOT to write Harry Potter and the team of your College is only playing locally and with little or no media coverage you are OK.
