No, It don't.
Because the USB interface can't be master and slave in the same time. So, it's impossible to use USB for some applications (with or without converter), especialy for the two-way communication with PLC or other selfmade electronic makings.
The closer actual interfaces to do that is the RJ11 or the RJ45 but it's more complexe to acces it via program, the protocol is more complexe than that of the RS232.
RS232 is the paradise of the tinkerers.

Cette interface aux nombreux défauts a été remplacée avantageusement par l'USB.
Par contre, l'USB n'a pas la possibilité de réaliser tout ce que fait la RS232. L'abandon de cette dernière est donc problématique pour certaines applications très spécifiques.

Sur les portables, peut-être. Mais elles sont toujours présentes sur les tours et les stations d'accueil (du moins la dernière que j'ai acheté).
Et c'est une bonne chose pasce que j'en ai besoin : la plupart des logiciels de pilotage de variateurs passent par la RS232, la plus simple des interfaces d'ordinateur existant encore : une liaison bidirectionnelle sur 4 fils, quand on ne recherche pas de vitesse, il n'y a pas mieux. Ce qui explique que c'est une liaison très fiable.
L'USB est beaucoup plus rapide mais beaucoup plus limitée dans ses applications.

Claude is right : for your application, you don't need a TTF (or OTF) Font but a CAD font, like the SHX of AutoCAD.
