ellenelle, here are the first two versions of Miama, the initial version posted on dafont on Feb 11, 2009, and the first update, from around March 10, 2009:

http://rapidshare.com/files/418334451/Miama_-_versions_1___2.rar

As far as I can tell, these were the only two versions released on dafont prior to the August 25, 2010 update with metrics anomalies. I hope one of these two will work properly for your purposes.

This link is only good for ten downloads total, so grab it while it's still available.

OMFG, where do you find the time to do this ????????????

I have severe insomnia, vinz. It's not uncommon for me to be awake 36-40 hours in a row. It didn't take that long to make the list. I just started on the last page, and worked my way forward. I typed it in Notepad, so it was easy to locate any duplications, by using Edit -> Find. It will be easy to do updates, (probably once a week), because I just have to look at the most recent page(s), and look for posts made after this week's cutoff date. I didn't have to read all of the posts in the threads, because the green 'identified font' is always added to the first post.

I think the chart will add a little fun and incentive for those who have been identifying fonts, or those who would like to start. It also recognizes the efforts of those who are making positive contributions to this forum.

@ koeiekat: Yes, I should have used the word "foundries" instead of designers. Veronika Elner and Günther Flake probably didn't design most of the 2.500 or so fonts attributed to them, and URW is certainly not an individual. My bad.

I think the rules are fair to everyone. Many font identifiers might not be interested in this list, but I think it should have enough appeal to enough people to justify the time I spent for the initial tabulation. I have a feeling I may be stuck on one for quite a while, but I hope those who read my successful identification will download Pablo Impallari's Lobster. It's a great free font that he's constantly updating with new ligatures, and if there are any bugs remaining, he's hard at work fixing them. I also referred him to Luc Devroye for font hosting, so it's nice to be able to promote someone who's on the same team.

btw, do you know a way to move the trophy .gif in the original post, so it appears on the main page, instead of the gray circle with the line from lower right to upper left in the center? I think more people would read this thread if it had a graphic. The .gif would not have to be animated.

Thanks,

~bito

Try using a more recent unzipping tool. If you're using Windows, download the 32 bit version of the latest version of Winrar, and set it as the default program to open .zip and .rar archives.

Get it here: http://rarlab.com/download.htm

09/09/2010 alle 15:21  [post iniziale]  Font Identification Leader Board

Following is a list of those who have identified fonts in this forum, ranked by the number of fonts identified. The rules for inclusion are as follows:

1) Only fonts that have been positively identified on or before Sep 09, 2010 at 14:28 are included. Any fonts that are identified after that time will be included in the next update. There are three exceptions:

Scrawl Light and Mead Bold were credited to koeiekat, based on these two threads:
http://www.dafont.com/forum/read/742/scrawl-by-john-w-young Scrawl Light
http://www.dafont.com/forum/read/799/identification-police Mead Bold

Allianz Sans was credited to tophy52, based on this thread:
http://www.dafont.com/forum/read/749/font Allianz Sans

2) No points are awarded for recognizing hand drawn lettering or logos.

3) Once a font has been identified, subsequent identifications in later posts do not score points. The following people are affected by this:

tophy52 (Whoop Ass, Choc, Grobold, Creampuff, Xirod, Bickley Script, Bitsumishi, Tango)
Rodolphe (Zapfino, BD Bardust, Ginga)
koeiekat (Officer X, Carpenter)
vinz (Handel Gothic)
amysymes (Carpenter)
daviddddr (Impact)

Unfortunately for amysymes and daviddddr, their only identification so far had previously been identified by someone else, so they are both still on a duck.

4) Different weights of a font family are considered to be different fonts, for the purpose of the chart, but the same font from different designers, (eg: Balloon by URW and Balloon by Elsner + Flake), are considered to be the same font.

5) Only posts made in the English forum are eligible, but the language used in the post is not a factor.

If there is a confirmation of a previously suggested font that does not result in a new posting, please inform me by PM, with the url of the thread in question, and your score will be increased on the next update.

09/09/2010 alle 04:01  [risposta]  What is this font??

This is what the above graphic looks like with the colours inverted:

It may be easier to identify that way.

08/09/2010 alle 20:17  [risposta]  What is this font???

This is custom lettering, not a font. Notice how each of the three e's and thetwo capital R's aredifferent, and the baseline is inconsistent, but it moves with the lower broken border.

08/09/2010 alle 08:10  [risposta]  what font is this

This is custom drawn lettering, not a font.

The fact that the three A's in 'Saia Na' and the two E's in 'Frente' are identical strongly suggests that this is a font, rather than custom lettering. Beyond that, I'm of no help,

good call, danihonorato! Many have tried to stump the kat on font IDs. Few have succeeded.

07/09/2010 alle 03:41  [risposta]  please, identify this font

This might be easier to identify as a positive image:

This one's nice, too: http://cg.scs.carleton.ca/~luc/impallari.html

Thanks, 'kat

04/09/2010 alle 01:27  [risposta]  What's this Font?

It looks like custom lettering to me. It would be difficult to connect an i or an o to the k in a font.

04/09/2010 alle 01:24  [risposta]  What font is this?

I hope someone can identify this one. it looks awesome, with or without the shadows.

04/09/2010 alle 01:18  [risposta]  School of Rock Font?

@ aeroberator: I think it was assumed that you and "chumak" and/or "school of rock" from the abstactfonts forum post are the same person. Your last post indicates that this is not the case. I think it's unreasonable to expect someone to be familiar with discussions on another site's message board. Keep in mind, though that forum moderators can see the IP addresses of people who post on message boards, and I think there is one person who is a mod on both sites, (it's not someone who has posted in this thread).

~bito, (one of several dafont forum mods).

03/09/2010 alle 14:43  [risposta]  School of Rock Font?

@ aeroberator: All the help you can get on any Internet message board is in that thread on abstractfonts. Probably the best way to solve your problem would be to hire Jim Parkinson to do the lettering for you. If someone else did it, Jim would have grounds for a lawsuit. Fonts have limitations. Royal Acidbath is as close as you're going to get.

01/09/2010 alle 03:30  [risposta]  This might sound really stupid!

K Wilson ha detto
...i'm new to this, i know the fonts say 'free' but how do i know which ones i can use for commercial use???

K Wilson, you can use ALL of the fonts on dafont commercially, IF you purchase a license for the ones that are identified as "free for personal use" or "shareware".

In the download .zip for the fonts that are "free for personal use" or shareware, the terms of use should be set out in a text document of some sort, (ie: .txt, .doc, or .pdf file type, depending on the designer's preference). In a small number of cases, the terms of use may be listed in a graphic, or possibly in the font header, (the information in between the name of the font and the character display, when you open the font in preview).

Usually the terms of use are in a document titled "read me", "license" or "lisez-moi", (if the designer is French). These documents or graphics are almost always included with the font(s) in the .zip file. Note that, just because a font contains a "read me" document, it doesn't necessarily mean that you need to purchase a license to use the font commercially. It depends on what information the designer was chosen to include in the "read me". Sometimes it just says 'thanks for downloading my font', and the e-mail address or home page of the designer may be included. Many of the licenses for the 'shareware' or 'free for personal use' fonts are quite inexpensive, when compared to professional/commercial fonts sold at sites like myfonts.
