Why is my computer incorrectly 'seeing' these fonts?

30/09/2016 alle 18:32

I have the well-known typeface 'Interstate'. Each font has it's own .otf file as usual—named appropriately per each font (i.e. Interstate-RegularCondensed.otf).

I have installed them using the standard method (right-click, then 'install') on a Windows 7 PC. However, after doing so, I cannot see them in the fonts folder, and when I try to use the font in InDesign or Illustrator, I can only choose between 3 different Interstate fonts. It's like my computer isn't 'seeing' the fonts correctly and is being tricked into thinking there are only 3 there. Yet I cannot see how this could be a problem as all the fonts are named correctly.

Here is a screenshot of the folder with the .otf files so you can see the naming.

They are probably defective.

If you bought them, contact the font seller. If you downloaded them, that's another story. There are many commercial fonts floating around out there, freely downloadable. However, they are often badly converted, with internal font names improperly configured (and often other problems as well). For example, Bold and Bold Condensed may both have internal font name as "Interstate Bold". Windows doesn't handle this well, and will only recognize one of them. Correctable with a font editor. Whether the external font names are correct or not is irrelevant.

I appreciate the reply. I figured the font being defective could be the issue.

I'll use FontForge to mess around with the internal font names and see if something seems off there.

Thanks!
