I'm not an expert, but as far as I understand, renaming a font will never help because the real font name is embedded in the file. And the name that you see is only the 'file' name, not the 'font' name. To achieve what you want, I believe you have to use a font software to open said font and edit the font info and change the name and then save the font.

I have also went into my Fonts file and tried changing the name there and re-installing but it still uses the same name.
There is no relation beween the name of the file and the name of the font.

Thechnicaly, it's possible but legally, it's prohibited to modify a font (even its name) without consent of the author.
