Baskerville, designed by British printer and typographer John Baskerville in the mid 18th century, and available from various foundries.
At this small scale it is impossible to specify any particular alternate cut.

Here is a picture of the real Hindenburg
http://www.airships.net/hindenburg/lz129-hindenburg-detailed-history
The image show some really clunky lettering produced by a movie studio or game maker.
If you want an authentic presentation of this style of lettering I recommend Peter Wiegel's Blankenburg, which is available here at Dafont. This is the light weight version of Erich Meyer's Tannenberg of 1933.

Police suggérée : Blankenburg

11/09/2016 à 17:56  [réponse]  Batman Font Name?

Something similar could be made from Deco Elongated JNL
Changes:
Vertically mirror _B_ and extend mid stroke to lhs
Vertically mirror _V_ and add cross stroke
Remove top lhs corner of _M_ to make it round.
Close the gap between the top of the lhs vertical stroke and the top of the curved stroke.

Police suggérée : Deco Elongated

In 1941 the movie makers would have used Copperplate Gothic, a font designed by by F. W. Goudy in 1901, as the basis for making the big poster.
The differences from Copperplate Gothic that appear in the handmade poster are trivial and the result of artistic license.

Police suggérée : Copperplate Gothic

09/09/2016 à 14:18  [réponse]  what font ?

This thick gaspipe lettering does not match any pay or free font that I checked.
Perhaps a private font.
Headlined Solid seems to be the closest substitute, but not that it IS NOT THE FONT
Other similar fonts include Plakette Bold http://myfonts.us/td-iR78iX

Handpainted -- yes.

Image corrected for alignment, skew, uneven brightness etc.

.
If the background was fabric wrinkling could account for some of the variation in letter shapes.

Based on a font -- perhaps...

@Heron2001: Good find. I have not seen a font that is closer to the logo letters.

+++

IMHO this is hand drawn.
It is perhaps inspired by Clarendon Black.
However, the serifs on _B_ and _I_ in the image are thinner than Clarendon Black.
The bottom and top strokes on _C_ in the image are thicker than Clarendon Black.
The Top and bottom terminals on _C_ in image are close to Clarendon Black.
As for the out of focus issue, I can't decide if this caused the rounded terminals or they were in the logo. I suspect the latter is the case but can't say for certain.
In any event, Clarendon Black would be a good starting point for recreating the logo letters and more letters in a matching style.

Horizontally compressed to a width of under 40%
Here it is at 40%

Needs some more squeeze to get the exact percentage of the original width.
