Adding the extra bits at the ends of letters

17/02/2020 à 12:55

Hi,
This is a real noob question I know but theres a lot of fonts I seen on here with swirls and extensions at the end of letters but I have no idea how to add them when Im typing.

I mean there was one with little heart extensions either side of the word in the same style as the font. Then you look at the character map and theres no sign of them. Whyyy?

Sorry, that would have helped.
Pinky Cupid or Dhelman for example. But theres lots of fonts like that sort of thing.

In photoshop, select your text and use the "Stylistic Alternates" button in the character panel (Window > Character)

and for Dhelman, the author only gives the n, m and D as alternates in the demo font.
If you want some more, you'll have to purchase the font: https://www.creativefabrica.com/product/dhelman-script

I was also asking because I wanted it for an engraving program for Gravograph.
I doubt theres any options for things like that in there, its limited enough as it is.

Corel Photo Paint/Draw and would be useful for me tho.

What are those fancy bits called?

If your software supports OpenType layout features, then use the ones as available in the font.
You can use a font manager to see what features are included; see the red rectangle in the bottom right corner:

If your word processor or design software doesn't support OpenType features, you have to use the characters as defined in the private use area. You can copy and paste them into your software.

The screenshot shows MainType. That is a font manager from High-Logic (https://www.high-logic.com/). Funny enough the Pinky Cupid font has been designed with their font editor FontCreator.
