The movie and poster were '77 I believe. It's too early for Benton Sans although it's a very good match.

In 1903 faced with the welter of sans offered by ATF, Morris Fuller Benton designed News Gothic, a 20th Century standard.
In 1995 Tobias Frere-Jones studied drawings in the Smithsonian and started a redesign. Cyrus Highsmith reviewed News Gothic, and with the Font Bureau studio expanded it into Benton Sans, a far reaching new series, with matched weights, widths and performance well beyond the limits of the original.

@Pilaster I didn't noticed it was a poster. When I saw the PG rating (I assumed the rating system was more recent0), I just thought it was a DVD/Blue Ray cover.
Benton Sans was definitely not released in 1977 (Tobias was 7 years old). I should have tought about checking News Gothic, though. I never noticed how good it looked in all caps.

@fmontpetit I hadn't noticed the PG rating (Specsavers™ again), but apparently that changed in North America before Annie Hall was released, so that would fit.
I think Benton is as good a match as OP is going to get.
(Unless of course someone knows different)

Rated G: General Audiences – All Ages Admitted.

Rated R: Restricted – Under 17 Requires Accompanying Parent or Adult Guardian.
