I have been using DaFont for quite a while now, but have only just registered, and have been spending the last couple of hours browsing through the forum. I noticed quite a few threads about renaming fonts to their actual names, and that got me thinking about a program I used to use which did this very thing. So, I did a Google search to find it, and thought I'd share the link here for anyone who is interested:

Most of those threads are concerned with renaming the internal font name -- the one that shows up in the dropdown list of font names in Word or Photoshop. I don't know of any font renaming programs that can do that; they only change the external name to match the internal name. For example ariblk.ttf becomes Arial Black. That's all Neuber's font renamer does too.

To change the internal font names, you'll need a font editor, or some type of font management tool (Typograf can edit internal font names). There are some listed here:

Thanks for your comment, @jerseygirl! Yes, I did notice that most of the threads were about renaming the internal font name; but I thought that the one or two who did mention renaming the external font name might want to check out the program I mentioned. Personally, I'm not particularly worried about a font renamer at all these days, as I rename the .zip file when I download it, to reflect the site and whether the font is Commercial Use or not. I'm an amateur designer, and use the information in each project's Credits file.
