I contacted Sunset magazine the font is 'Guardian Egyptian'

No, that's not it, also not Unit Slab or Kandal or Zine!
This font is used throughout the magazine. I thought it was 'Auto 1' but the uppercase'C' is different.

Thanks for your help - this typographer did a great job! I just love the extreme contrast of the typeface and the huge curving brackets- the numbers are also very elegant.

I think the numbers are a different typeface than the letters. Thanks for the help!
