If it's always the same alternate font displayed, try uninstalling the alternate font, then test your new one in Word.

Look at your fonts directory in C:\Windows\Fonts. Do you have more than one version of this new font installed? Check by Date Last Modified, as they would necessarily have different file names.

Did you make an error, or not complete, the font and family name sections in the font header?

Is it possible that you have more than one installed font with the internal file name "Untitled", or similar?

04.08.2021 um 14:38  [Antwort]  Author donation

I only have one font that has a commercial use licensing fee, and I negotiate what that fee would be on a case-by-case basis. I don't enable the 'Donate to Author' button on any of my fonts, because I don't want anyone to think that making a donation buys commercial use licensing rights. When you see a 'Donate to Author' button on a font site less reputable than dafont, chances are good that any donation will not necessarily go to the font author's account.

Wow, they give you 25% when you make a sale through their site. Who could pass up a deal like that?

Imperator small caps license document

Hi, I downloaded the Imperator small caps font and was wondering if you had the license document available to show how the font can legally be used?

Paul Lloyd hasn't released any new fonts in more than fifteen years. Don't be surprised if you find no current contact information.

There are a lot of professional quality fonts made before 2005 in particular that are 100% free for all use. In several cases, the designers were retired persons who had worked in typography prior to the digital age, and they designed fonts from alphabets that may only have existed in lead block formats.

Dieter Steffman used to grant commercial usages for his many fonts to anyone who asked him politely on his home page. Manfred Klein is retired from typography, and perhaps no longer alive. His last released fonts were in late 2007, and he sent me three fonts by e-mail that were works in progress in early 2008. He didn't answer my reply to that e-mail.

koeiekat won't be answering anymore questions, because he died in 2017. http://luc.devroye.org/fonts-57251.html

claudeserieux can answer just about any font-related question, but he usually does it in French.

Everything I know about making fonts, other than what I learned myself through trial and error, was taught to me by toto@K22.

The readme text documents that come in Apostrophic Laboratories' font .zips are great, but they have nothing to do with the fonts.

Metaphasebrothel, I think the same!

Thanks, pal, I enjoy many of your fonts.

One of the reasons I made BeautyMarks 100% free is because all of the images are based on photographs and artwork found on the Internet, but the adaptation to vector form is 100% my own work. We've both had people say 'you used my drawing/ photograph, etc in your font. Remove it immediately!', and we can tell them to F off, because the 'fair use' provision of International copyright law allows us to do that, provided that the font is not sold, and it has educational value.

The educational value in my fonts is not necessarily in the content; the procedures I use are educational to typographers, or those with aspirations to make fonts. I take multicoloured images downloaded from the Internet, and draw on top of them in two colours, composed for monochrome. I then save the completed images as monochrome bitmaps, import the bitmaps into my font editor to create vectors, edit the vectors, and save the completed project file as True Type font. This is an old school technique that very few font designers use, but it is a method that can produce quality fonts without having to have both expensive software and natural talent in drawing. Many people have creative brains, but they cannot convey their imagination to paper with a pen, or to digital image with a mouse. My techniques allow people like that to make their own fonts, because I'm one of them. I can't draw anything with pencil and paper, and I'm left handed, but I draw with the mouse in my right hand, so art talent is not a prerequisite.

All of my source graphics are made with MS Paint. Anybody with the time and patience, and a font editor that allows for monochrome bitmap importation, can do what I do.

"Of course, this is porn" "Since I consider your site a graphic designers heaven rather than a place for porn addicts..."

As the designer of one of the sexy fonts, (BeautyMarks), I have to say a)The font is not intended for children, and there is a note to that effect on the character map page. b) If you consider 'ink blot silhouettes' that suggest human forms to be porn, it's your mind that's dirty, not the fonts. You might walk more comfortably if you take the stick out of your ass.

It's not dafont's, or society's, responsibility to give proper guidance to children; that's a parent or teachers job. Eleven and twelve year old children generally don't buy commercial use licenses for fonts. You could very easily have forbidden the children from viewing that portion of the site, but instead, you attempt to discharge YOUR responsibility onto someone else' shoulders.

You could have your students look at fonts at Fontspace dot com; they don't have any sexy fonts anymore, because people like you threw a hissy fit, and they caved in.

Add an image of the font to your post, then pose your question in the Font Identification forum.

This is Cast Iron, a 100% free font on dafont. It doesn't have a Condensed weight. You need to provide a download link or at least an image of Cast Iron Condensed before anyone can help you with pairing suggestions. It shouldn't have been necessary to point that out.

01.05.2021 um 08:54  [Antwort]  commercial font

Click the banner for that font; commercial licensing information is in the Notes of the Author https://www.dafont.com/hello-honey.font

Take into account that many fonts submitted to dafont were made by professional typographers, but many more than that are created by amateurs with minimal knowledge of how to make a font that is professional in appearance. Common newbie errors include kerning errors, (ie: the space between letters), inconsistent baselines, and glyphs located in the wrong place. Some people submit commercial fonts with the name changed, or they modify an existing font, with the majority of glyphs left unchanged. Many are just not good enough to be posted on dafont, but the staff have to review them, before making that decision. Type designers who have already demonstrated that they know how to make a font correctly usually have their new submissions approved more quickly. Some designers submit unfinished work, then upload multiple updates as they correct mistakes that should have been done before the initial submission.

09.04.2021 um 01:24  [Antwort]  How to make a font???

@fontsandmore: I make fonts as a hobby, not as a vocation. I can't justify the expense of buying new software to create fonts that are generally 100% free, or would generate minimal income. I invest most of my time in creating monochrome bitmap source graphics, into which I import, and modify, with Scanfont 3. I use FontLab Studio5 primarily to change the vector size in vertical metrics.

I don't like FontCreator5 because it adjusts the size of imported graphics. ScanFont3 creates vectors with 10 editing units for each pixel in the imported monochrome bitmap. I'm an old dog, and I don't want to learn new tricks, but thanks for the information, nonetheless.

The pertinent question is: Are you intending to earn any income from the font? If the answer is yes, it's commercial use. If the answer is no, it's personal use. If you're going to use the font in material graded by a professor, including the name of the font and its designer in the bibliography footnotes would be a good idea. If someone asked me specifically, I'd ask for a copy of the creative project, but no money.

If you use a font for commercial gain, it's commercial use. The fact that you might have limited discretionary income because of the high tuition and housing costs while not having a full time job is irrelevant. That would get you this:

06.04.2021 um 15:50  [Antwort]  How to make a font???

I have FontCreator, Fontlab Studio5, and ScanFont3. I never use FontCreator, and I use Studio5 only for a few technical tasks. I love ScanFont3, but it's no longer sold, and it only works with pre-Vista versions of the Windows operating system. I make fonts on a separate computer with Windows XP that isn't connected to the Internet. My fonts are all based on vectors created from imported monochrome bitmap images, as opposed to drawing glyphs from scratch within the font editor.

Everything I know about making fonts, except for what I learned on my own through trial and error, is from toto@k22. Some of that knowledge is contained in his past postings in the dafont forums. FontKawaiiCo, In my opinion, it would be a good investment of your time to selectively scan through toto@k22's posting history, and I have no doubt that at least half of the next seven questions you have will already have been answered in one or more of his posts.
