How do I know which fonts can be embedded?

19.04.2014 um 23:59

I created a set of free printables with some free fonts and just recently discovered that one of the fonts, Linedings, is no longer working. This is the page with the printables: http://www.homeschoolwithlove.com/2013/04/15/before-you-speak-think-free-printables/

Apparently, the font can't be embedded so I will have to remove that font from the printables. For future reference, how can I know when a font on this site can be embedded or not? I try to be careful about choosing only fonts that claim to be free, but apparently, some have security settings. I want to avoid this issue in the future. Thanks for

After downloading you will have to look at the fonts properties or whatever they call that on a Mac. In the properties look for embedding rights.

I think I found it. I found "Font embeddability." Some say "Restricted" and some say "Installable." I guess I'm looking for "Installable," right?

By the way, why do these fonts say 100% free in their descriptions yet have restrictions? That's a little confusing.

Most of those fonts were made years ago with Fontographer. Thish program had the embedding rights set to Restricted License Embedding by default. Ergo ...

Oh, I see. Thanks for letting me know. At least now I know what to look for with fonts.

@Blessings2all: Please read post #5 in this recent forum thread: http://www.dafont.com/forum/read/160350/please-help-with-kr-floral-color-me-2.

I don't know if Mac computers have a character map application in Accessories/ Utilities, but you could create your embedded document on a PC, if necessary.
