attempting to make my own font... struggling...

28/04/2012 às 15:07

I was wondering if any of you would be willing to help me out.
I'm trying to make a font for my college project, I've downloaded fontographer and it doesn't seem to like what I'm doing.
I've exported each letter as an EPS file from illustrator and they look just as I like, I import the files in and on the edit screen for each letter everything looks peachy keen.
However in the overall view screen they all look wrong, and then when I export the font it's horrific...

I have screenshots of the development process on my project blog if you care to look... muchadoughaboutmuffin.tumblr.com
I don't have time at the moment to sit and learn the software because I still have what feels like a million and one illustrations to finish... so if you have any suggestions or advice I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks

The will come in at cap height. Draw all subsequent letters in Illustrator to same scale

I made a file, put guide lines in for the base line and then the height of the ascenders/descenders... that didn't work. does it have to be in a box?

also, how do I fix it not being an outline once I put it in fontographer?

thanks for the reply

ok so I put the letters in boxes and that has fixed the height problem, but not the fact that the letters are filled in...

No,no,no, Start again importation (illustrator to Fontographer)

Right way.
1.Draw a box (in Illustrator)
2. In Illustrator, select the character to pasted into Fontographer.

You can copy/paste between Fontographer and Illustrator without re-scaling your outlines.

I did the box in illustrator, then reimported it.
that bit's perfect...

I just need to make it be an outline like my originals in illustrator now.

As a total beginner in font creation you are probably better of with a font creation program with a far less steep learning curve.

any suggestions?

I've got the letters perfectly ready in illustrator, I just need something to put them together as a font.

I just need to make it be an outline like my originals in illustrator now.

Fontographer User manual p. 163 @ 165

The current path direction, clockwise or counterclockwise, is shown in the
Element menu. Click a control point and choose Clockwise or Counterclockwise
from the Path menu to change path direction. You can also change direction via
the path direction indicator in the outline window. Path direction is defined only
on closed paths.......

....

Reverse path direction

To reverse path direction, select the path to be reversed and click the path
direction indicator with the mouse (in the lower left corner of the outline window)
or choose the opposite direction from the Element menu – either clockwise or
counterclockwise. Reversing path direction will alter the fill in your glyph.
