Font used in old Acts of British Parliament

Hello everybody, I'm trying to find the font that was used for Acts of British Parliament. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is link to the Act from which the screenshot was taken (PDF): http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1920/65/pdfs/ukpga_19200065_en.pdf

The a, g and t point to something like the Monotype Modern Extended but it is always difficult with pixelated images so I would not dare calling it a match. Alas.

Scotch Modern you mean Claude? Very well possible.

The Scotch foundry of Alexander Wilson & Son at Glasgow before 1833. The modern adaptation of the face was first made in 1903 by the foundry of A.D.Farmer & Son.

The Scotch Modern was there before the Monotype Modern?

@Fred, the name of the type is Monotype Modern Extended, to distinguish it from the other Moderns around.

Modern is a general term for faces draw with greater precision and greater contrast between thick and thin strokes than the earlier Old ùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùùstyle faces. The trend began with work of Bodoni and Didot the latter part of the eighteeth century: modern faces derived from Bodoni.

Hey guys, thanks for replying.

The lowercase "e" in Scotch Modern is a complete mismatch. In other versions of Scotch, the "e" is closer, but the lowercase "t" is off. The "t" in Scotch Modern is perfect. It looks like some variation of Scotch was probably the font, though. Thanks for the tip.

It's interesting that the font used in acts of British parliament for so many decades is so obscure. I would have guessed that somebody would have known the answer without even looking at the pic.

Maybe the problem is that most of us were not yet born in 1920 and those that were had not yet gathered knowledge about typography in that year.

Had you produced a graycale image instead of this pixelated b/w, probably the ID would have been easier. So at the moment all we have to go by are the a, g and t. You should be able to figure out why.
