GARAGE DOOR INSULATION: Polystyrene and Polyurethane
Unless you have a single slab wooden door, you probably have some form of insulation installed in your garage door. Many garage doors are made so that there is a steel sheet in the front, which is painted or decorated to look like wood. Inside, you will likely have polyurethane or polystyrene as your insulation, but what is the difference?

Polystyrene insulation can typically be found in thicker doors. The insulation does not provide the highest thermal value, which means you will be spending a little more energy on heating. This is compensated to some extent by the additional thickness of the garage door. Polyurethane tends to show up in thinner garage doors; however it has a greater thermal value. It is intended to decrease the amount of money you spend on regulating temperature. Polyurethane-insulated garage doors can also be more efficient in decreasing outside noise. Both of these forms of insulation have their benefits, so when you're shopping for a garage door get to know what your options are.
