Contacting Mark Riddle

30/07/2013 alle 19:53

I am attempting to contact the creator of a font (Mark Riddle, Gilligan font) to determine permissions on using his font in a mobile app. He is unreachable in the email address in his Read Me. Would anyone happen to have a more accurate and current way to contact this creator?

Thanks!

Hi!
I'm trying to contact him as well, I sent him emails but he's unreachable.
I found his address:

Mark Riddle 1164 Coushatta Ln. Spring Valley, CA 91977 e-mail: MRiddle@aol.com

I think I'm going to write him a mail with the postal service, seems the
only other way to contact him.

Did you manage to hear from him?

Bye,

J.

Hello,
I wanted to know if there was any update in regards to Mark Riddle's contact information?
I would also like to use his font Gilligans Island.
Thank you,

Hi

I am also trying to find out about this for a while now too, seems that his email is active but no response. Is there a way of getting a commercial licence?I found this readme file on another site. But sceptical about sending money with no trace :/

here is the text (http://www.fontcubes.com/viewfile.php?f=MzkzMi9HSUxMSUdBTi5UWFQ=)

Gilligan's Island is a font based on the show of the same name (of course).
IT was created from scratch by recreating the letters of the opening credits
and the main title logo. This font is also perfect for giving your documents
that tropical, fun and informatl look. It is best at larger point sizes.

Gilligan's Island Font is a complete font with full punctuation, specialty
characters and numbers. In addition there is a small treat for all you
castaways, the cartoon characters are alos included in this font! The
castaways reside in the extended key combonations.

Gilligan's Island is part of the 5 BUCK FONTS library. If you like it and
use it, you are required to send in your registration fee of $5 (thats a
steal for a font like this one). Commercial users are required to pay $10.
THis font is copurighted material and may not be modified in any way without
express written consent of the author. You may distribute this font freely
to others, but the "Read Me" file must accompany the font. I encourage
shareware font compilations but please ask permission for the use of this
font on ANY software compilation.

Send payments to:
Mark Riddle
1164 Coushatta Ln.
Spring Valley, CA 91977

Coxy - there is a part of me that believes he has no legal stand to sell this font. Yes, he may have made it from scratch but it is owned by United Artist.

I had a friend who use to make "movie" type - from scratch ... and eventually he was shut down - he did not have the right to create a font based on the artwork of the movies in their title type.

Good Luck - I hope someone has an answer based on facts for you.

Ok thanks Heron2001

I went to check out the company and they are no longer active, their website takes me to MGM. So ive send them an email asking about this.

i also have no idea on the legal aspect even more so now haha. That story about your friend is the kind of story which makes me want to thoroughly check out every font i use going forward, I guess you never know who's concept it was in the first place.

Coxy - it worked out well for my friend in the end - he is now a handletterer for Disney. They put his talent to work!

Hi Heron2001,

That's good about your friend, I've looked around an there is another font called 'AR Christy' which claims to be a free font and it looks like they have taken the letter style from this font.

Im so confused with the copyright on Gilligans island now.

Send it certified, that way someone has to sign for it...That would be the only way I would know that someone actually got it and you have PROOF.

HTH,
Brad

Thanks Brad, i think ill do what you said, seems the best option.

i have found a font which is very similar called 'AR Christy' which is a rip off of Gilligans island

then i found that this company 'Arphic Technology Co' has put it in a font package on their site, but the buy buttons dont work.

it also seems that a company is selling the font under a different name with one letter (a) being the only difference.

Ive emailed them to get an answer on this.
