I created this image using LT Oksana, adding shadow in Powerpoint, and then using the blur tool in Photoshop. The only problem is that it's less versatile than a regular font. Is there any way to make this blurred version into a font option like the italics or bold versions?

Yes and no. PS adds blur effect to the image/pixels, the font is a vector shape that can use only one color. There are technics to simulate that though. Here you have an example:

Here you have a font with shadow effect and inline version:
http://www.dafont.com/titania.font . Again, shadow is 100% black and no transparencies can be used.
