As said, common issue with most if not all fonts by Måns Grebäck. They look nice. True. But there is room - ample room - for technical improvement.

Here some examples of what is wrong with the Before the rain font.



Units per em is set at 500 which should be 2048 for truetype fonts. Correcting this, however, does not solve the problem. The cutting-off of the top and bottom of characters is caused by the Typo ascender and descender settings and can only be solved by correcting these settings.

Yet, there are more problems with the font. 375 of the 387 (the usable of the 488) glyphs have problems.

The red circles in the pict are extreme off-curve and/or redundant points. The red crosses are intersecting coordinates. Extreme off-curve and/or redundant points just make the font a bit messy but do no harm. Intersecting coordinates and contours in the wrong direction do. They shall be absolutely avoided.

hello, I downloaded PreCursove today from this site & use open office. I have the font installed but i think i have the same problem as this user as the bottoms of the letters are missing - is there something in my settings i can do?

I am having the same issue with the top of the font getting cut off. I am trying to use "Chouette alors by Maelle.K" font. Can someone please help me? Perhaps you can adjust the ascenders/descenders in the font for me also?

Hey I know koeiekat already answered this question for those who know more about making fonts and how they work, but I was wondering if there is a quick fix for those of us who know nothing about font making and how fonts really work.

I'm a Mac user with Word 2010 in Snow Leopard (if that makes a difference or helps with specifics) and I'm trying to use Brannboll Fet and as someone already posted here the swirls and all that stuff extending under and above of what I call the font line is getting cut off. How can I fix this with minimal understanding of how font structure and font making works; in other words how can i fix it when I'm a normal person with not much understanding about all that extra stuff posted earlier here?

I'd really like to use the font for little set of invitations I'm making as a gift for a friend so if anyone can help, it'd be much appreciated.

The ascender/descender settings can only be changed with a font editor, see my image above.

Måns Grebäck has made a new version that does not have this problem on a Mac I believe, the Ny (New) version is here: http://www.dafont.com/brannboll-ny.font The numbers are replaced by swashes.

This is a crippled version with punctuation marks hidden behind a personal use only character.

I'm in the same boat as aygo. I"m using Word 2010 on MacBook but do not know how to get to the font settings to change the indexes you graciously provided above. Coincidentally, Before the Rain is the exact font I am having issues with.

Hey there! I have no idea how to ask for help so I am just commenting here. A few of the fonts I downloaded from dafont.com have been cut off when I use it on Phonto. Could you please help me? Thanks! The fonts are: bromello, buttercup,chocolate heart, magnolia sky,mayton, October Twilight,spring time and watermelon script.
