Hey, I am in need of a font for a bands album cover. I am curious if there are certain fonts that do not need permission from the author and how do I find this information out? Also if you do need to get information from the author how does one go about getting his/her email?

First of all, check what is written just above the "Download" button, it gives a first information. Then, check the zip file you have downloaded, there might be information inside (a text file, pdf, etc.). Then, to be sure, you can contact the author, if such information is available - on the author's page here on Dafont, or inside the zip file.
