Why there's no UTF-8 fonts?

30/12/2010 a las 05:04

Hello.
I'm searching for script/handwriting font, i have checked about 100 fonts and NO ONE of them supports UTF-8 encoding (ēūīāšģķļžčņ and more). Why's that? Is UTF-8 really dead? Cus as far as i know, for whole europe UTF-8 is standart font. I can't write my letter without characters like ĀĒŪ and so so.

If anyone know any script/handwriting font who supports "ēūīāšģķļžčņ", please paste it there.
Thanks.

They support most of the accents you crave. I will add the other glyphs in the future.

And an answer to your question as to why no on bothers to add the accents: because they're a hassle, take a long time and about 70% of the population (or more) don't use caron, hungarian umlaut, macron and the like!

hmmm, must have overlooked those. As I said, will add those in the future, but as I am in Birma right now, uploading is pretty crappy here (it is blocked by the wonderful gov't of this country). ;-((

And yes: most fonts that support a full character set are commercial! There are hardly any free fonts with the worx..

Kimberly Geswein has updated many of her handwriting fonts recently to include those diacritics. The diacritic letters are not always very well designed, but perhaps passable for your intended use? Only free for personal use, mind you.

I specialize in upgrading free fonts to include most diacritics (with permission from the original designers) and then releasing them with a very generous commercial license. Check out my site if you're on a tight budget, and need good quality fonts with multilingual support

BTW, UTF-8 is not a font character set, it's a method to select glyphs (based on Unicode)
ALL the TrueType fonts on this site support UTF-8 - they just don't have that many diacritic glyphs...
